Online Risk Management Seminars
The following risk management seminars are provided to our insured physicians to help them deliver safe medical care to the people of Oklahoma. The OSMA designates these continuing education activities for a maximum of two (2) hours in Category 1 credit and have been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) though the joint sponsership of OSMA and PLICO. MALPRACTICE PROOFING YOUR PRACTICE

At the end of this seminar you should be able to identify and develop communication skills as a malpractice loss prevention tool, explore techniques for building rapport with patient and family, learn to overcome gender based miscommunications between females and males, identify behavior patterns of the disruptive physician, develop an ethical plan for dealing with the disruptive physician, and understand medical record requirements and documentation recommendations.

At the end of this seminar you should be able to identify common communication problems, identify and develop skills for building rapport with patients and family, develop a methodology to identify and deal with angry patients and family members, develop tools and protocol to decrease common errors in medical records, and define and identify the roles in which your staff can strengthen the doctor-patient relationship.



MEDICAL ETHICS & MEDICAL ERRORS

At the end of this seminar you should be able to develop a framework to enable ethical considerations in the decision-making process, learn to identify and deal with non-compliant and disruptive patients, identify behavior patterns of the disruptive physician, develop an ethical plan to deal with the disruptive physician, identify common surgical and diagnostic errors and develop systems to decrease their likelihood, and develop a methodology to decrease the incidence of medication errors.
